campground review: koa of wilmington nc
>> Tuesday, November 3, 2009
wilmington koa "campgrounds of america, inc." located on nc route 74, inland a bit, but conveniently located 5 miles from wrightsville beach and downtown wilmington. here is our review of the experience...
the sweet:
koa is the gold standard for campgrounds and this particular koa was no different... far, far surpassing any of the local competition! in fact we ended up at this campground after being disgusted by the carolina beach family campground which was nothing shy of "deliverance scary." we later found out that the carnies stayed at cbcg while in town. anyway... back to our shiny koa review. i really enjoyed the free coffee every morning while being greeted by camp hosts; michael, danielle or dereka. the bathhouse was well lit and always clean, no spiders and even had a tv programmed to the weather channel. the outdoor pool and free wifi were both nice amenities, this campground was clearly well managed.
the sour:
the campground was set back off a highway so riding bikes or walking outside the campground layout was not possible. driving everywhere not all that fun. campground critters: bees and lots of squirrels dropping acorns onto the camper frequently.
while in wilmington for an extended stay it was a pleasure to camp at this lovely campground!
